We headed to starbucks for breakfast before begining the day itinerary of watching the astronomical clock show and visiting the old town hall tower before heading to the other free attractions around the Jewish district with the Prague card.
The old town hall tower standing at 70m high, has a viewing gallery which allows visitors to have a bird eye view of the old town. To access the viewing gallery, visitors will have to climb up a spiral slope. While climbing, the interior walls of the towers have posters baring the history of the tower, making climbing less dreadful.
We spotted an elevator for decending which we decided to use for ascending instead and decended via the slope. Hence, we had reversed history lessons. Lol.
Not a model visitor, do not follow!! :p
Next we headed out to the Jewish District and followed the free attraction route, visiting a couple of Jewish places of worship including a cemetery. In total, we visited seven attractions which became boring after awhile as every attraction bares similarities. Furthermore, the information provided in these attractions were far from detailed when compared to Galicia Museum in Krakow.
After having our fair share of Jewish historical moments, we headed to Lokal for late lunch.
Lokal was one of the highly recommended local restaurant for fresh Czech crusine when I googled for places to eat. Housed in a plain looking beige building, the place was - plain. No fancy decoration, no air conditioned facilities or whats not. The moment we stepped into the restaurant, 90% of the customers who were locals, had eyes starring at us like an alien just invaded.
Service staff were far less interested in welcoming us. Look, stare, see and turned away. After gaining some attention, we ordered our food and after a short wait, our food came. We tucked in and to our dismay, food was as bad as the service.
Period.
Lokal:
After lunch, we went back into the old town to climb the Powder Tower. The Powder Tower often known as the Powder gate is built to separate the old town from the new town. Beside serving as a city gate, it was used to store gun powder hence it's name.
Powder Tower:
nám. Republiky 5, 110 00 Praha 1, Czech Republic
The spiral stairway leading up to the tower was narrow. It was not an easy climb in the hot weather. The climb led to an empty tower which led up to a viewing gallery. Hence, if you have had viewed Prague's skyline, you may give this a miss!
We tramed back to our b&b to freshen up before heading out to town for some shopping. The mall was small and there were really nothing much to buy other then Manufaktura, a Czech brand selling a range of beauty and home spa products! Pretty awesome! We made some putchases before finding dinner.
We passed by this booth selling crepe and decided to order because the crepe we had at Lokal was bad, we needed another to satisfy our sweet tooth!
Surprisingly good! So good, it attracted the bees' attention once again! We practically gobbled the crepe in large chunks without savouring it much.
We decided to head back to out small neighbourhood to try the cafe opposite our b&b.
BAD CHOICE.
Met the most atrocious service at Kredenc. Appearently, it is a steakhouse. Sounded like an atas place right? Steakhouse in Singapore all pretty atas with ok service. Here? I got screamed at to sit and not mess with the menu.
No one wanted to receive us at the door so we made our way to the menu corner to have a look. Unfortunately, the menu were non english and all I said was: "excuse me, do you have an english menu?" And the next moment, the rude waitress yelled: "JUST SIT! YOU ARE MESSING UP THE MENU!"
As usual, all eyes were on us like we are some aliens. This unkind soul did not deserve any kind treatment. I, although boiling hot within, remained calm and in my monotone cold voice told her she was very rude.
Either her vocabulary is limited or that just reflect the true personality of all service staff when serving a tourist, she yelled yet again: "JUST SIT!"
Hello. We are not a dog neither are we poor Asians. In fact, we flew half the globe to contribute to Prague's economy but this is the kind of attitude we keep getting in beautiful Prague?! WHY?????
We are no monkeys. We don't monkey see, monkey do. So off we went, self inviting ourselves out through the door.
We headed back to the pub beside our b&b and decided to just settle dinner there. Turned out, not a bad choice! Food was one of the best. The locals here were just there to watch soccer and drink beer. No one gave a damn about us. Best of all? The service was by far the best we had.
We ended up spending a long time at the pub. At least the day ended on a good note! :) By mid-night, we were back in our B&B to retire and prepare for our excursion to Prague Castle! Do look out for my next post! :)
